ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bill Gerencer is a 44 year veteran of the New England Working Waterfront.  Bill worked as a lobsterman, and commercial fisherman in the Gulf of Maine and on Georges Bank–one of the most important, and productive fishing grounds in the world.

Bill then came ashore and became a fish buyer for the prestegious Foley Fish Company, at the Portland Fish Exchange, the first all display fish auction in the United States.  Later on, Foley’s added  sales, corporate trainer, corporate chef, and oyster curator to his roles at the company.

Concurrently–following a comittment to sustainability, Bill served on the Groundfish Advisory Panel to the New England Fisheries Management Council and on the NOAA Office of Sustainable Fisheries’ Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel. Bill has also served on the NMFS Research Steering Committee and the Trawl Advisory Panel.

He is currently retired and employed part-time at an oyster farm, works as a seafood consultant, and author.

He is committed to sustainability and fisheries and practices that mitigate climate effects.
